9th Grade.
(En français)
WARNING: the curriculum has been revisited but not these pages. Some informations aren't so accurate.
It should be updated soon.
Overview:
There are 2 main perspectives for 9th grade:
• the final exam (“DNB” for “Diplôme National du Brevet”): this exam is supposed to certify that the students have acquired a certain level of knowledges in many fields;
• high school.
Thus during this school year, concerning algebra as well as geometry, we will complete the systems of knowledges taught since 6th grade (classic algebra and euclidian geometry) and initiate the topics that will be studied in high school (for instance functions and probabilities).
Students will have the necessary and sufficient tools in all fields (regardless of vectors). During high school they will develop the way we use these tools.
Contents:
The goal is to give the students all the tools that will permit them to react in all situations.
We will revise and go into in depth the technics already studied.
We will add:
We will revise and go into in depth the technics already studied.
We will add:
- Literal computation: factorisation and perfect squares
- Square root: definition and properties
- Equations: product of factors equal to zero
- Inequations: solving method and interpretation
- System of two equations with two unknown: solving methods and graphic interpretation
A chapter about natural numbers and their properties
- Divisibility
- Reminder division
- GCD
- Euclide’s algorithm
- Problem solving
Something really new for the students.
A special attention will be put on the acquisition of the vocabulary and its usage as well on the interpretation of graphs.
- “Function of”: principles, vocabulary, graphs.
- Linear functions: recognising linear functions
- Modelling
- Optimising
A special attention will be put on the acquisition of the vocabulary and its usage as well on the interpretation of graphs.
At the end of 9th grade, students will possess all the main tools of euclidian geometry.
Proofs and reasoning will take a large part of the work and of the marks.
- Thales’s theorem and reciprocal
- Inscribed angles theorem
- Trigonometry: sinus, cosinus and tangent in a right-angled triangle
- Enlargement and reduction
Proofs and reasoning will take a large part of the work and of the marks.
Season 4: spheres ans sections by planes
- Spheres: definitions, properties and formulas
- Sections of solids by planes
- Enlargement and reduction of solids
About descriptive statistics:
- Statistics: médian, quartiles and interpretations
- Simulations: first simulations of a random experiments
- Probabilities: principles and first estimations
Advices:
This year for the first time additionally to the end of the year class meeting, students will have to sit for an exam (Official informations for the DNB (in french)).
The “DNB” is a exam of knowledges not a competitive exam.
It’s a global exam. Students will definitely have to work all the year around, regularly. Many topics will be addressed.
Furthermore they have to prepare for high school. They will be asked more and more autonomy.
A special attention also need to be put on precision of the knowledges, rigor and coherence in the proofs.
In order to be ready for the 10th grade, they must acquire deductive reasoning, its principles and its meaning.
They must absolutely put a lot of effort to overpass one’s natural laziness: each solution goes hand in hand with an explanation.
Enjoy the school year.
