10th Grade.
Overview:
10h Grade is an important step for the students. We will:
• improve our use of the knowledges acquired in middle school,
• build the basis of function analysis and cartesian geometry,
• add tools useful for other materials,
• permit the students to make a wise choice for the following years.
Contents:
Students will step by step have to learn to study phenomena globally or variables when until then they were more likely used to focus on a precise example.
10th grade is a critical transition period, where abstraction will be develop in order to embrace more situation.
Students will learn to use in a better way what they already know in order to get the necessary basis for 11th and 12th grades.

Advices:
Les élèves devront acquérir l'autonomie et les méthodes de travail nécessaires à la poursuite d'études: un travail régulier sur les méthodes de résolution de problèmes vues en classe est absolument nécessaire.
Les élèves auront souvent l'impression de savoir déjà, en utilisant les connaissances acquises au Collège, résoudre les problèmes proposés. Il est absolument nécessaire qu'ils acceptent, même si cela leur semble plus compliqué dans un premier temps, d'utiliser et de pratiquer les nouvelles méthodes proposées.
C'est sur des exercices et problèmes simples qu'ils pourront construire les compétences nécessaires pour aborder les problèmes à venir, cette année et au cycle terminal.

The "What for?" or "Do we really need that?" are recurring questions in 10th grade.
Students should learn to restrain themselves a bit as they will need some more years to really understand the notion and be able to use it in real life situation.
Their confusion is understood and we will as much as possible try to give answers and illustrate their usefullness.
Students should also be aware that we will more and more focus on reasoning and correct methods that permit to ensure the validity of their proofs.
The correct answer is important but not more than the way to get it.
They need to work thinking always of the arguments proving their answers, more than the previous years.
Finally students should not worry during the year when some themes or notions are not fully understood or clear. We will go in spirals, gradually on the difficult points of the curriculum.
Students need to focus on the rigour and the methods given by the teacher.
