Overview:

The ultimate school year!!
Two main goals:

•final exam:
– the assessment lasts 3 hours.
– the coefficient is 5 or 7 (extra-curriculum) for the economic stream
– the coefficient is 4 for the literature stream

•after high school!!

We will go mainly into in depth of the study of geometric sequences until we reach the study of limits of sequences.

The idea is to study economic discrete evolutive situations and to be able to make some previsions.


From a graphic point of view, we will define continuity of functions. The goal is to present the intermediate value theorem, that is to solve equations we don’t know how to solve algebraically.

Through the use of this theorem we will go back and towards derivatives.

We will define the convexity of a graph of a function and see the link with the second derivative.

Then we will see some interpretations for economy of this concept.

We’re enlarging the set of functions in order to study broader phenomena.

Exponential function flows from geometric sequences and logarithm function from the exponential function, as an indivisible brother.

Last chapter of calculus: integrals and the fundamental theorem of calculus.

We will go through graphics’ interpretations, precise definition, properties and applications to economy.

We will introduce the concept of conditional probability which is the main theoretical tool for discrete probabilities.

Until now we were counting on the student’s intuition. During 12th grade we try to give a more rigorous approach.

We introduce the principles of continuous distributions in probability, mainly towards the normal distribution.

Even if the principle is hard to get, the applications are quite immediate.

We go into in depth of what has been studied the previous years.

More complex situations and simulations.

Also more refined tools for estimations as we will possess the normal distribution. It’s also the time to justify the previous tools.
Advices:

• for the final exam:
It is not a competitive exam.
It’s a knowledges’s assessment.
The paper is globally maked up of classic exercises.
Students have to acquire the meaning of the studied concepts and the basic rules that permit to use them.
Their knowledges of the topics and the methods need to be precise but the examples they will have to deal with are basic.

During the school year students will also be assessed on others skills than the ones for the final exam, in order to prepare them to succeed after they graduate.
The nowadays world is complex, the systems that they will be facing are complex too.
Students have to get to a level of knowledges and master maths’ tools that will permit them to read, understand, interpret and may be model practical situations.
This is a difficult part of this school year.
